Artist Statement:
“Survival” is all about finding beauty in the unexpected. Picture this: a cocoon tucked away in a grungy rain gutter, its tiny, hopeful presence surrounded by dampness and decay. But it’s not just about the grime. It’s about this tiny life form that’s hunkered down and hanging on, ready to transform, right in the middle of all the muck.
I wanted the cocoon to be the star of the show, so I changed the camera’s depth of field to make everything else blurry. This trick lets your eye zero in on the cocoon, making it stand out in its messy world.
“Survival” is a shout-out to all the underdogs out there. It’s a reminder that even in the grimiest of places, life hangs on, grows, and even thrives. So, here’s to the little guys who keep on keeping on, no matter where they are.
