Artist Statement:

“Summer Interlude” is a photograph steeped in nostalgia, a poignant tribute to a once-cherished locale now lost to time and change. The setting is my childhood favorite hamburger joint, now vacant and silent, a relic of a bygone era soon to be erased by the relentless march of gentrification.

This photograph is more than just a memory frozen in time. It’s a testament to the resilience of places and people, a symbol of peaceful solace amidst the inevitable cycle of creation and destruction. Despite the harsh realities of economic downturn and urban redevelopment, there’s a quiet dignity in the building’s stoic endurance, a final stand against the inevitable.

Through my lens, I’ve attempted to capture the spirit of this place: the laughter and stories that once filled its space, the aromas that wafted from its kitchen, the sense of community it fostered. The image serves as a reminder of the impermanence of things and their everlasting impact on our hearts.

“Summer Interlude” is a salute to cherished memories and a gentle call to appreciate the fleeting moments, places, and experiences that shape our lives. It reflects the temporal nature of life itself, childhood memories, and the constant, unstoppable evolution of our surroundings.
