Discussion Guidelines
This still life exhibits elements of my past, present, and future. It includes a stuffed animal I’ve had since infancy, a textbook to signify my current studies, and a cheese grater and Shabbat candlesticks to represent my future responsibilities and opportunities. The cheese grater represents my worries that the future will be punishing and “grate away” at youthful enthusiasm. Finally, the Shabbat candlesticks are a symbol of maintaining my Jewish identity as I pass from being a child to a young adult.
